Cart level

A cart level discount is a money discount that is calculated based on the total value of the cart. Percentage discounts are always considered product level.

These discounts can be set to trigger when a given product is added to the cart or when other conditions are met.

Example:

  • We set up a 25$, cart level discount for customers who purchase product A
  • A customer buys two items of product A at 50$ and 1 item of product B at 75$; the total cart value is 175$
  • The customer unlocks a cart level discount of 25$
  • The customer pays 150$ (175$ minus the 25$ discount)

Product level

All percentage discounts are considered product level. Additionally a product level (or line level) discount can be a money discount that is calculated based on the price of each item in the cart that is eligible (a specific product or variant).

Example:

  • We set up a 25$, product level discount for customers who purchase product A
  • A customer buys two items of product A at 50$ and 1 item of product B at 75$; the total cart value is 175$
  • The customer unlocks a product level discount for product A, of 25$ for each product A purchased
  • The customer pays 125$ (175$ minus two times the 25$ discount)
